NEAR MISS REPORT RUNAWAY AUTO FIRE

Aerial 2 and Rescue 2 were recently dispatched to a vehicle fire on State Road 112 (the Airport expressway) West bound at N.W. 37 Ave. As we entered the expressway at N.W. 27 Ave, we discovered that the vehicle fire was actually behind us; on the down hill slope of the 27 Ave overpass bridge. he vehicle, a SUV, was on the right shoulder of the expressway and uphill of where we entered. ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTION – RAIN ROOFS

Upon arrival, firefighters find a one story CBS home with heavy smoke pushing from vents in the in the eves overhanging the home’s exterior walls. The Battalion Chief in command of the incident suspects a fire that has either originated or extended to the attic. Based on this observation the Chief orders firefighters, protected by a charged hoseline, to pull ceiling immediately upon entering the front door. HAZARDS OF GROW HOUSES

The environment for growing marijuana indoors can be a very dangerous environment for firefighters when a fire occurs in a “grow house”. Growing operations are commonly filled with electric hazards due to exposed wiring, terminals and connections. Artificial light is created by high voltage mercury vapor or high pressure sodium lamps, each requiring its own igniter, capacitor and transformer (Photo 1). Partner K-12 Power Saw Operation

Recently military personnel were clearing fallen tree debris utilizing the Partner K-12 with a diamond blade. During the operation a 2” X 2” section of the blade separated and pierced a soldier’s boot causing a serious injury. An investigation by the military revealed that the blade had rust and small cracks had developed which contributed to the failure. The recommendation from the investigation was for all blades to be inspected and those with any with signs of environmental compromise (rust) …
